Lluis ALMAZÁN MIQUEL

Born in Valls (Tarragona) in 1943. He studied design and modelling at the E.M.I. of Tarragona. During 28 years he develops professionally on illustration, working together with some Spanish editorials, and some years after, in 1995, he is exclusively dedicated to painting. Texture and material application on his work helps him to increase its own realism.
Almazán Miquel tries to find his place in the complex Catalan artistic scene. The large baggage of the artist formed in the illustrating and editing world marked, without any doubt, his artistic path. His work walks from realism to neorrealism passing through a changeable and mature process in which material and painting have always an essential role.
He looks, with delicate obsession, for textures to help us to explain contents. That way, it is not a surprise that straw and other materials from the land are often added as they were part of a collage and they became, in the same way, a pictorial element.
For Almazán Miquel, material is an element that he adds and reinforces content. Textures increase the effect and give a more important force. During creative process, there is one significant feature that we must point out: Almazán Miquel chooses very carefully the subject of his work. He don’t let himself being captivated by easy and impressive arguments; on the contrary, the most unusual corners, the older and decadent objectives catch his attention.
